Tom Winkler grew up in Burke and Springfield, and then earned his undergraduate Biology degree at Virginia Tech. He went to dental school at the Medical College of Virginia, and after graduating in 1989, he spent two years there teaching Restorative Dentistry as a clinical professor. The skill and passion Dr. Winkler has for restorative dentistry can still be seen today in the full-mouth restorations he performs.
He continued to hone his dental skills throughout the nineties, both in the dental industry training other doctors, as well as, in a local private practice with his father and brother. Patient care was always his primary focus, so he joined Dr. McMillan in 2002 to concentrate on this full-time.
Dr. Winkler returned to the Springfield/Burke area to practice with his father and brother until 1998 when he founded a dental practice management company. Constantly striving to improve the lives of his patients, Dr. Winkler quickly realized the unfulfilled promises of corporate dentistry and left the management company to return to a more intimate private practice joining Dr. Alex McMillan in 2002.
Dr. Winkler's fortes are in family, aesthetic, implant and sedation dentistry. He trains extensively every year in advanced courses on Cosmetic Dentistry at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies(LVI) and in the most effective and safe sedation techniques. He and his partners are some of the premier providers of sedation dentistry in the country and have one of the most state-of-the-art implant practices in the area. Dr. Winkler's passion is extreme makeovers, providing beautiful smiles and functional teeth in a day.
He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association and the Northern Virginia Dental Society.
